Older Dogs Available
Older dogs become available from ALCA member breeders for a variety of reasons. Often, a retiring breeding dog will become available for placement in a "forever" home. Or, a puppy may have been held back for potential breeding stock and the breeder may decide that the puppy does not fit their breeding program and therefore becomes available for adoption.
ALCA applauds the efforts of their breeders in placing their older dogs in an environment where they will be loved and cared for. It is always a very difficult time for a caring breeder to part with a beloved dog. We will make every effort to give a brief history of the available dog and list the circumstances that the breeder feels will fit the needs of the older dog available.

Our little guy was the smallest of his littermates. We bottle fed several times a day in addition to having mom's milk to give him a boost. We wanted him to have every opportunity to get big and strong like his siblings so he spent a great deal of time with me on outings where I could keep an eye on him. Because of all of this time spent in my arms and on my lap during the first 5 weeks of his life, he is a total love bug. He is self confident and a bit reserved, which are great qualities for a puppy to have. He prefers not to rough house with the other pups but will seek out one of the humans in the family to snuggle up with instead. He can and will hold his own but is a really gentleman by nature. He absolutely loves being held and likes to crawl up and give a proper hug by putting his head on your shoulder. His energy level is moderate to low so he would also do well in an apartment/condo environment with daily walks.
